RULES FOR USE OF VILLAGE
COURTESY CART
Transportation via the Courtesy Cart is
provided by the Village as a convenience to those residents and guests who are
physically disabled by reason of age, injury or disability.
·
Persons
requiring transportation via the courtesy cart should telephone Village
Security at (631) 583-5572 in advance of their desired use time to request the
services of the courtesy cart and confirm availability. Transport will be made in order of request
and in such manner as the driver may deem most efficient.
·
As a
rule, only persons who are physically disabled by reason of age, injury or
infirmity are eligible for transport on the courtesy cart. However, when necessary, a
household member who is not physically disabled, but whose assistance is
required by a disabled passenger, may be permitted to accompany the disabled
individual, at the discretion of the driver.
·
Transport
will be provided only to or from the rider’s home and the village ferry dock, or
between the rider’s home and the Village doctor’s office for medical
appointments or emergencies. No other
stops or destinations are permitted.
·
Security
has been directed to refuse to transport any person if the request is for an
improper or disallowed use, or if, in the opinion of the driver, the person
requesting transport appears to be in good health and not physically in need of
transportation, or for any violation of these rules.
·
Security
may, in the interests of good order and at the sole discretion of the Chief or
officer in charge, elect to provide transportation to an individual about whom
a question as to his or her eligibility has arisen, but in such case Security
shall inform the individual that future requests may be denied unless the person
provides proof of need of such transport.
·
Drivers
or others involved in courtesy cart operation may not accept any gratuity for
their work.
·
The
Village reserves the right to modify or change any courtesy cart rules or
transport conditions at any time.
The Village thanks you for your
understanding and cooperation in making sure that the use of the courtesy cart
is reserved for those who need its services, and that it is operated in a
manner that will benefit the entire Saltaire community.
